Hanging Out At An Outdoor Swimming Pool In The Park — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1958, this vintage home movie captures a sunny day at an outdoor swimming pool in French Lick, Indiana. Men in patterned swim trunks and women in classic one-piece swimsuits gather by the poolside, some climbing the ladder into the water while others relax on the concrete deck. The scene is framed by lush green trees under bright daylight, with natural film grain and color shifts characteristic of Super 8 footage. A man in a dark shirt stands near the pool edge, observing the activity. This authentic slice of mid-century American leisure offers nostalgic, archival footage for documentaries, period pieces, or retro-themed content.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1950s American leisure footage for productions needing a brief outdoor poolside recreation insert or mid-century summer memory beat.
Period detail: The swimsuits, patterned trunks, concrete pool deck, and saturated 8mm color may show late-1950s public-park recreation style.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged visitor perspective, watching adults move between the pool ladder, deck seating, and shaded park edge.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include swimmers in one-piece suits and trunks, a pool ladder, concrete deck, low stone wall, seated adults, trees, and bright sunlit pavement.
Film character: The footage carries a physical 8mm texture with heavy grain, uneven exposure, color shifts, gate shadows, and slight handheld framing.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short cutaway, transition, or nostalgic insert for mid-century summer recreation and public pool scenes.
Historical context: The scene documents casual adult recreation in a park-like pool setting, with clothing and behavior suggesting ordinary postwar leisure rather than a staged event.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed separately from film copyright, with no visible logos or private interiors apparent in these frames.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1958 8mm outdoor swimming pool, French Lick Indiana home movie, 1950s park recreation, and vintage poolside adults.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with nearby shots from the same reel, then other French Lick 1958 material, then broader 1950s outdoor recreation or swimming pool footage.
