Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s Tokyo martial arts demonstration footage suited for documentary inserts, education programs, or archive sequences about judo, karate practice, or Japanese dojo instruction.
Period detail: The plain indoor mat, white gi uniforms, handwritten-style title text, and monochrome 8mm scan texture support the 1971 archival setting without showing exterior landmarks.
Home-movie behavior: The clip preserves a practical demonstration rather than a staged performance, with two adult practitioners moving through the setup and execution of the technique for the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two adult men in white gi, a dark belt on one practitioner, a padded mat floor, a plain wall, overlaid Sumi Gaeshi title text, and dark film-frame borders.
Film character: The scan carries pronounced grain, soft focus, uneven exposure, and dark gate edges that give the short martial arts sequence a clear physical 8mm archive texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a concise instructional insert, a transition into martial arts training material, or a memory beat for early 1970s Japan footage.
Historical context: The scene documents indoor martial arts instruction in Tokyo with adults demonstrating a named throwing technique, but it does not identify the dojo, instructor, or school.
Research note: Adult faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed; no logos or private property are apparent, and copyright clearance remains separate from personal rights review.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1971 Tokyo 8mm martial arts demonstration, Sumi Gaeshi judo throw, Japanese dojo home movie, and vintage gi training footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other footage from the same reel, then with Tokyo 1971 material, and then with broader martial arts, dojo practice, or Japanese home-movie sequences.
