Large Building In Urban Area Shuts Off Lights On... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1957, this vintage home movie captures a large urban building at night as its lights gradually shut off, leaving only a few glowing windows. The structure, likely a skyscraper or landmark, stands against a dark sky, its illuminated floors fading one by one in a striking display of urban darkness. The grainy, low-light quality of the Super 8 footage enhances the nostalgic, archival feel. This clip offers a rare glimpse into mid-century city life and architectural lighting patterns, perfect for historical documentaries, retro-themed projects, or nostalgic storytelling.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1950s 8mm night footage for productions needing a brief urban building lights-out insert or moody city transition.
Period detail: The clip may show mid-century urban high-rise lighting patterns, with only window lights and dark building silhouettes visible at night.
Home-movie behavior: The camera holds from a distant street-level or window view, preserving an unstaged observer's look at nighttime city illumination.
What appears in frame: Dark sky, faint building mass, scattered warm window lights, blue-green exposure flares, deep shadow, and heavy night grain are visible.
Film character: The 8mm footage has dense low-light grain, soft focus, underexposed shadows, and slight color cast that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short cutaway, nighttime transition, city memory beat, or visual punctuation for lights going out.
Historical context: The scene suggests a quiet urban night in the 1950s, but the visible frames do not identify a specific building or civic event.
Research note: No people, logos, or readable signage are visible, though building identity and property-related permissions may still need review by the buyer.
Research search match: 1957 8mm night city building lights, mid-century urban windows, home movie high-rise darkness, Wheeling Ohio archival footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1957 Wheeling-area night exteriors, then broader 1950s urban architecture footage.
