Young Women Playing Table Tennis in Basement — Clip Details

A young woman in a red cardigan and white skirt plays table tennis in a basement with three other women. The setting features a cinder block wall and a single exposed light bulb overhead. The players wear 1950s-style clothing, including blouses and dark jackets. Shot on 8mm film in 1957, this home movie captures a casual, nostalgic moment of social recreation. The grainy, slightly blurry image and warm color tones reflect the era's amateur film quality. The camera remains stationary, focusing on the game from behind the player in red.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1950s home-movie requests needing casual indoor recreation, young women socializing, or domestic leisure footage for documentary and educational edits.
Period detail: The clothing, 8mm color stock, basement recreation space, exposed bulb, and cinder block wall support a mid-century home setting consistent with the 1957 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the informal, unstaged table tennis play, with the camera observing from behind one participant as friends gather around the table.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a red cardigan, white collar, table tennis table, paddles, cinder block wall, exposed light bulb, dark jackets, and women standing or seated nearby.
Film character: The clip has soft 8mm focus, visible grain, warm color, uneven exposure, and slight registration softness that read as authentic amateur home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief cutaway, memory beat, or domestic recreation insert within a sequence about mid-century leisure or family social life.
Historical context: The scene shows a small indoor game in a private basement, suggesting informal recreation among young women without making claims beyond the visible activity.
Research note: People and a private interior are visible, so likeness and property review may be needed separately from copyright or footage licensing assessment.
Research search match: Searches such as 1950s women playing ping pong, 8mm basement table tennis, Wheeling Ohio home movie recreation, or mid-century indoor leisure may match this clip.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other Wheeling or 1957 home-movie scenes, then broader 1950s social recreation or basement game footage.
