Short Clip Of Animated Scene From Felix The Cat — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1937, this vintage animated clip features Felix the Cat in a classic black-and-white silhouette style. A man in a dark coat and light pants stands in a simple room, reacting to Felix’s antics as the cat leaps from a cylindrical container. The animation uses bold, high-contrast silhouettes with minimal background detail, typical of early 20th-century cartoons. The scene includes a text bubble asking, 'WHY ARE YOU SO EXCITED?' capturing a moment of comedic interaction. The footage shows natural film grain and slight wear, preserving the authentic look of a historic home movie.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for requests needing a 1930s 8mm animated-cartoon insert, especially productions discussing home viewing, early screen entertainment, or vintage character animation.
Period detail: The frames show a black-and-white silhouette cartoon with simple line backgrounds and intertitle-style lettering, consistent with early 20th-century animation seen in the supplied 1937 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: As scanned home-movie material, the value is in the viewer-preserved fragment of a cartoon rather than unstaged human behavior.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include Felix the Cat, a stooped man in a dark coat, a cylindrical container, a sparse room line drawing, a bed or rail at left, and the caption text asking why he is excited.
Film character: The clip carries an 8mm physical-film look with soft focus, gate edges, dust specks, warm projection tint, and mild exposure variation across the contact-sheet frames.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief cartoon insert, memory beat, transition, or visual reference for 1930s screen culture and home-movie collecting.
Historical context: The clip visually documents an animated Felix the Cat scene preserved within an amateur film context, showing how commercial cartoon imagery could appear inside personal film collections.
Research note: No live people are visible, but Felix the Cat and the animated scene may involve underlying copyright or character rights separate from likeness and property concerns.
Research search match: Likely researcher searches include 1930s 8mm Felix the Cat cartoon fragment, vintage black-and-white animation, early cartoon intertitle, and Sacramento 1937 home-movie cartoon clip.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then with Sacramento or 1937 material, and then with other vintage animation, theater, entertainment, or home-viewing footage.
