Two Men Competing In Jiu-Jitsu Match — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1967, this vintage footage captures a jiu-jitsu competition in Los Angeles, California. Two male athletes in white gi uniforms, one with a red belt, grapple intensely on a competition mat. The scene is viewed from behind spectators, with judges seated at a table and a crowd watching. The grainy, slightly faded color and film scratches are characteristic of home movie footage from the era, conveying authentic 1960s sports nostalgia.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1960s sports, martial arts, amateur competition, and Los Angeles recreation sequences needing real 8mm footage of a jiu-jitsu match.
Period detail: The white gi uniforms, seated judges, close spectators, and faded color 8mm look support a late-1960s indoor martial arts competition setting.
Home-movie behavior: The camera watches from behind and beside spectators, giving the match an informal audience-level perspective rather than staged sports coverage.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two male competitors in gi, a red belt, a black belt, judges at a table, spectators, a mat boundary line, and a numbered official.
Film character: The clip has soft 8mm grain, dim indoor exposure, slight color fade, and handheld framing that give the competition scene physical-film immediacy.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief insert, sports cutaway, competition memory beat, or transition within a sequence about martial arts or 1960s recreation.
Historical context: The footage shows a public indoor martial arts match with officials and spectators, reflecting organized recreational sport activity in the period.
Research note: People, faces, and a visible number or marking on an official may require likeness or identification review separate from copyright status.
Research search match: Search matches include 1967 Los Angeles 8mm jiu-jitsu competition, 1960s martial arts match, vintage gi grappling, and home movie sports footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with same-reel sports footage, then Los Angeles 1967 material, then broader 1960s martial arts, wrestling, and amateur competition scenes.
