Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1960s documentary or educational edits needing real 8mm footage of a public martial arts competition in Southern California.
Period detail: The white gi, colored belts, seated judges, and crowded indoor hall support a mid-1960s organized karate match setting.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has a spectator-shot feel, watching the sparring from the audience side as the referee partly blocks the view.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two sparring men in white gi, a dark-clothed referee, pale mats, judges at a long table, and a dense seated audience.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, visible grain, slight color fading, gate edges, and handheld framing that preserves the physical-film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short action insert, sports cutaway, or period memory beat for martial arts and recreation stories.
Historical context: The clip shows karate being practiced before spectators and officials, reflecting an organized community sports setting without identifying the event by name.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness and event permissions may require review separate from any copyright or footage license questions.
Research search match: Search matches include 1960s 8mm karate match, San Gabriel martial arts competition, vintage sparring footage, and referee with audience.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then San Gabriel 1966 footage, then broader 1960s martial arts or indoor sports material.
