Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports requests for 1960s Southern California amateur sports or martial arts footage for documentary, education, or period recreation edits.
Period detail: The white gi uniforms, dark mat, low-light filming, and 8mm home-movie texture may show a mid-1960s community martial arts practice or match.
Home-movie behavior: The camera stays close to an active ground exchange, preserving an unstaged spectator view of bodies shifting, holding, and rolling on the mat.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two people in white gi uniforms, dark belts or sashes, a dim mat surface, low background detail, close grappling, and heavy film grain.
Film character: The clip has a dense 8mm night look with coarse grain, high contrast, soft focus, handheld framing, scratches, and blue vertical scan or film marks.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a brief insert, action cutaway, memory beat, or period texture for martial arts, recreation, or amateur sports sequences.
Historical context: The footage offers visual context for small-scale martial arts activity as captured by a home-movie camera, without confirming the event type beyond the visible match.
Research note: People are visible and likeness review may be needed; no logos, brands, or private property are apparent, and copyright clearance is separate from appearance rights.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1960s 8mm martial arts match, San Gabriel home movie sports footage, vintage karate or judo practice, and nighttime amateur fight footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1966 San Gabriel material, then broader 1960s martial arts, amateur sports, or night recreation footage.
