Two Men Competing In Karate Tournament — Clip Details

Two men in white karate gi with black belts engage in a dynamic match at a 1966 karate tournament in San Gabriel, California. Shot on 8mm film, the footage captures their intense grappling and throws under bright indoor lighting, with spectators seated in the background. The grainy, slightly faded color and soft focus reflect the authentic look of vintage home movie footage from the mid-1960s. A wall clock and simple gym setting add to the period atmosphere, making this archival clip ideal for documentaries, retro nostalgia projects, or historical content about martial arts.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s 8mm footage for edits needing a brief indoor martial arts tournament scene in San Gabriel, California, with competitors and spectators visible.
Period detail: The white gi, black belts, wall clock, plain gym wall, and seated audience support a mid-1960s community tournament setting.
Home-movie behavior: The handheld framing follows the competitors at mat level, preserving an observer's view of grappling, balance shifts, and audience attention.
What appears in frame: Two men in white karate uniforms, black belts, a gym wall, wall clock, dark doorway or panel, blue equipment cabinet, and seated spectators are visible.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, modest color fade, uneven exposure, and slight frame jitter give the short scene its 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a quick insert, action cutaway, or memory beat for martial arts practice, amateur competition, or 1960s community sports.
Historical context: The footage shows karate competitors performing in front of a small indoor audience, suggesting a local tournament or demonstration setting.
Research note: Faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed; no logos are apparent, and copyright status is separate from participant or venue permissions.
Research search match: Researchers may find this under 1960s 8mm karate tournament, San Gabriel martial arts footage, vintage home movie fight match, or amateur sports event.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with same-reel tournament shots, then other 1966 San Gabriel footage, then broader 1960s martial arts or community gym scenes.
