The Volcano Peak During The Night — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1967, this vintage home movie captures a dramatic, red-tinted view of a volcanic peak at night in Yellowstone Wyoming. The footage shows a snow-capped mountain silhouette framed by dark evergreen trees, with a strong red color cast likely from a filter or film anomaly. The image is grainy and slightly blurred, characteristic of Super 8 home movie footage, creating a mysterious and atmospheric nocturnal landscape. This archival clip offers a rare, nostalgic glimpse of Yellowstone's natural wonders under unusual lighting conditions.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1960s documentary or education edits needing archival Yellowstone night landscape or surreal mountain cutaway footage.
Period detail: The frame may show a mid-century visitor-shot mountain view, with only the 8mm color stock and 1967 clip metadata supporting the period.
Home-movie behavior: The clip carries a home-movie viewpoint, holding on a distant mountain framed by trees rather than a staged scenic composition.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a snow-bright mountain peak, dark evergreen silhouettes, red-tinted sky, soft focus, film grain, and duplicated contact-sheet framing.
Film character: The 8mm scan has heavy red color cast, visible grain, soft focus, low-light exposure, and slight instability that read as physical-film texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a brief atmospheric insert, dreamlike transition, landscape cutaway, or memory beat for Yellowstone travel material.
Historical context: The footage reflects a visitor-era home movie approach to national park scenery, but the specific peak or viewing point is not identifiable from the frames.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, though copyright status and any location-specific use questions should still be reviewed.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1967 8mm Yellowstone footage, red-tinted mountain at night, vintage national park landscape, and home movie forest peak views.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1967 Yellowstone material, then broader vintage national park mountain or forest night imagery.
