Sunset over Mountains with Silhouetted Pine Tree — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1974, this vintage home movie captures a serene sunset over a mountainous landscape, likely filmed during the World's Fair in Seattle. The sky transitions from deep orange and golden hues to soft purples and blues as the sun dips below the horizon, with scattered clouds catching the fading light. A silhouetted pine tree appears on the left in some frames, adding depth to the natural scene. The footage exhibits classic Super 8 grain, color shifts, and film edge borders, evoking a nostalgic, authentic 1970s home movie feel. Ideal for documentaries, editorial content, or nostalgic projects exploring American history and vintage film aesthetics.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s 8mm home-movie sunset footage for documentary inserts, reflective transitions, or archival sequences needing a quiet Western landscape sky.
Period detail: The visible clues are mainly the 8mm frame edges, color response, and home-movie exposure, with no identifiable landmark confirming the stated Seattle World's Fair context.
Home-movie behavior: The camera holds on changing sunset color rather than staged action, preserving a personal travel or memory view of evening light over distant hills.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a clouded sunset sky, dark mountain horizon, pine silhouette at frame edge, warm orange light, purple-blue clouds, and film borders.
Film character: The clip shows soft 8mm grain, slight exposure shifts, rounded frame edges, and saturated color casts that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a contemplative cutaway, time-passing transition, end-of-day insert, or memory beat between travel or family scenes.
Historical context: The footage may reflect a 1970s amateur travel perspective, using natural light and landscape scenery without visible people, buildings, or public signage.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, but copyright status and any location or event association should be checked against the source reel records.
Research search match: Search phrases include 1970s 8mm sunset landscape, vintage home movie sky, mountain horizon at dusk, Super 8 evening clouds, and archival sunset cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent reel shots from the same home movie, then any confirmed 1974 Seattle-area material, then broader 1970s sunset or travel landscape footage.
