Sailboats Docked at Marina with Apartment Buildings — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1973, this vintage home movie captures a tranquil marina scene in New York. Several sailboats and motorboats are moored along the docks, their masts rising against a backdrop of mid-century apartment buildings and trees. The footage exhibits a distinct blue-purple color cast and film grain typical of Super 8 home movies from the era. The camera pans slowly across the water, reflecting the boats and structures in the calm surface. This archival clip evokes a nostalgic, quiet moment of waterfront life in the 1970s.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s New York waterfront home-movie footage suited for documentary cutaways, urban marina context, or period leisure inserts.
Period detail: The clip may show 1970s marina life through sailboat rigs, low-rise waterfront apartments, calm docks, and a blue-purple 8mm color cast.
Home-movie behavior: The camera observes from a quiet, visitor-like distance, panning across moored boats without staged action or visible people.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include sailboats, motorboats, masts, dock pilings, calm reflective water, apartment buildings, trees, and shoreline structures.
Film character: The 8mm scan carries soft focus, visible grain, mild exposure variation, gate edges, and a pronounced blue-purple shift that mark its home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a waterfront establishing insert, memory beat, transition, or calm cutaway within a 1970s New York sequence.
Historical context: The footage places private boating and apartment-lined waterfront living in the same frame, offering visual context without identifying a specific marina.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, or readable brands are visible, but copyright, location, and property considerations should still be reviewed for intended use.
Research search match: Useful searches include 1973 New York marina 8mm, 1970s sailboats docked, vintage waterfront apartments, and home movie harbor boats.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1973 New York waterfront material, then broader 1970s boating or marina scenes.
