A White Motorboat Anchored in Calm Water — Clip Details

A vintage 8mm home movie from 1973 captures a white motorboat anchored in calm, purple-tinged water, likely a bay or inlet near New York. The boat, with its classic 1970s design and a small canopy, gently rocks on the still surface, its reflection shimmering below. A small, grassy island or shoreline is visible in the background under an overcast sky. The footage exhibits the characteristic grain, color cast, and slight instability of Super 8 film, evoking a quiet, nostalgic moment of leisure and solitude.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s New York-area archival requests needing a quiet home-movie cutaway of recreational boating on calm water.
Period detail: The clip may show a 1970s white cabin motorboat with a small canopy, filmed from shore or another boat on 8mm film.
Home-movie behavior: The unstaged value is in the patient home-movie observation of a moored boat rocking gently with no people or performance visible.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a white motorboat, calm purple-tinged water, boat reflections, a low shoreline or island, pale sky and film-frame borders.
Film character: The footage carries 8mm grain, soft focus, purple color shift, slight exposure variation and contact-sheet framing as part of its archival texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a calm insert, waterfront transition, leisure cutaway or reflective memory beat in a 1970s sequence.
Historical context: The scene suggests ordinary waterfront recreation rather than a marked event, with the boat isolated against a low shoreline.
Research note: No people, logos or readable registration marks are visible, but copyright and any location or vessel-property concerns should still be reviewed.
Research search match: Researcher searches might include 1973 New York 8mm boat, vintage home movie motorboat, calm bay footage or 1970s waterfront cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1973 New York waterfront material, then broader 1970s boating or leisure footage.
