Boats On The Deep Water Basin Floating On Gentle Seas — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1973, this vintage home movie captures several white motorboats floating on calm waters in New York. The footage shows a larger cabin cruiser alongside smaller runabouts, gently bobbing on a tranquil basin under an overcast sky. A distant shoreline with trees is visible in the background. The film exhibits classic Super 8 characteristics: soft focus, subtle color fading with a blueish tint, and natural grain. The camera remains mostly steady, offering a nostalgic glimpse of mid-1970s recreational boating.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s New York recreational boating coverage, especially documentary or editorial sequences needing quiet marina, basin, or leisure-water cutaways.
Period detail: The white cabin cruisers and small runabouts may show early-1970s pleasure boating, supported by the 1973 home-movie metadata and 8mm source format.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged visitor or family-film viewpoint, watching boats drift from shore or another vessel rather than presenting a planned boating scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include calm open water, white motorboats, a larger cabin cruiser, small runabouts, a low tree-lined shoreline, an overcast sky, and film frame borders.
Film character: Soft focus, blue-purple color shift, visible grain, mild exposure variation, and contact-print framing give the shot clear 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a quiet insert, waterfront transition, leisure-memory beat, or establishing cutaway for a New York boating sequence.
Historical context: The footage documents ordinary recreational boat presence on a calm basin, offering social context for waterfront leisure without identifying a specific harbor or event.
Research note: People may be present at a distance, so likeness review is prudent; no readable brands or private-property details are visible, and copyright clearance is separate from likeness review.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1973 8mm New York boating footage, vintage home movie motorboats, calm basin water, cabin cruiser, runabouts, and 1970s recreational waterfront.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then with New York 1973 waterfront material, then with broader 1970s boating, marina, or summer leisure footage.
