Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s New York City archival requests needing brief zoo or wildlife cutaways of a young bear interacting with water in 8mm home-movie footage.
Period detail: The footage may show a zoo-style water enclosure, with period clues coming mainly from the 1971 8mm color stock, handheld framing, and simple concrete-and-water habitat design.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot home-movie perspective, lingering on the cub's curious, unstaged play with a metal water spout rather than a formal wildlife presentation.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a young bear cub, dark rippling water, a large pale metal water fixture, concrete enclosure edges, black film borders, and strong sunlit highlights.
Film character: The scan shows authentic 8mm texture with visible grain, soft focus, contrasty highlights, slight color fade, and handheld framing that preserve the home-movie character.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short animal behavior insert, zoo visit cutaway, childhood memory beat, or transition within a sequence about urban leisure and wildlife viewing.
Historical context: The visible scene reflects casual public observation of captive wildlife in the early 1970s, without enough visual evidence to identify the specific zoo or facility.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, or brands are visible, but copyright, location permissions, and any zoo or property-related restrictions should still be reviewed before use.
Research search match: Searches this clip may answer include 1971 New York City zoo bear cub, vintage 8mm bear playing in water, home movie wildlife enclosure, and young bear drinking spout.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then other 1971 New York City zoo or park material, then broader vintage animal behavior and wildlife enclosure clips.
