A Christmas Tree And A Gold Statue Is Reminding Us Of — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1970, this vintage home movie captures the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree illuminated with warm red and orange lights, set against the stone facade of a New York City skyscraper. In the foreground, a golden statue of a reclining figure with outstretched arms is visible, adding a classic architectural element to the festive scene. The footage exhibits the characteristic grain and color saturation of Super 8 film, evoking a nostalgic holiday atmosphere from the early 1970s. The camera remains steady, focusing on the tree and statue, with subtle shifts in framing that highlight the holiday decorations and urban setting.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s documentary or editorial requests needing Rockefeller Center holiday atmosphere in New York City from home-movie footage.
Period detail: The decorated Christmas tree, stone skyscraper facade and gilded fountain sculpture place the scene in a midtown holiday setting, with 1970 supported by clip metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The framing has a visitor-shot perspective, lingering on the illuminated tree and nearby sculpture rather than staging action for the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a large lit Christmas tree, warm red-orange bulbs, a gold reclining statue, stone building walls, dark window openings and black film borders.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, visible grain, warm color saturation and slight handheld reframing that preserve the physical-film texture of a home movie.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a holiday insert, New York transition, Rockefeller Center cutaway or brief memory beat in a seasonal sequence.
Historical context: The clip visually documents public Christmas display culture in New York City through a tourist or family-film view of a landmark holiday scene.
Research note: Rights review should consider recognizable public art, location context and any distant visitors; copyright, likeness and property issues require separate assessment.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1970 New York Christmas tree footage, Rockefeller Center holiday home movie, 8mm NYC Christmas lights and vintage urban holiday cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with nearby shots from the same reel, then other 1970 New York City material, then broader vintage Christmas tree or public holiday display footage.
