Germany-1961: Man Walking Into Phone Booth At Shell Gas Station

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for requests needing 1960s West German roadside service, public telephone, or branded fuel-station everyday-life material for documentary inserts or period context.

Period detail

The Shell pump, Volkswagen sign, white phone booth, mid-century cars, and 8mm color stock support a 1961 Germany roadside-service setting.

Home-movie behavior

The clip has unstaged home-movie value in its casual observation of a man entering a phone booth while other travelers and parked cars pass through the station forecourt.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include a Shell gas station facade, red and yellow fuel pump, white phone booth, Volkswagen sign, parked white car, dark car, pedestrians, and roadside greenery.

Film character

The footage shows soft 8mm color, visible grain, slight exposure washout, frame jitter, and contact-print texture that signal original home-movie film material.

Edit role

An editor could use it as a brief establishing insert, travel transition, service-station cutaway, or memory beat for mid-century European mobility and communication.

Historical context

The scene documents ordinary roadside infrastructure where fuel service, public telephones, private cars, and branded signage share the same small forecourt.

Research note

People and recognizable Shell and Volkswagen branding are visible, so clearance review should consider likeness, trademark, and contextual use separately from footage copyright.

Research search match

Likely researcher matches include 1961 Germany Shell gas station, 8mm phone booth at service station, vintage European petrol pump, and home movie roadside stop.

Archive pairing path

Pair first with other frames from the same reel, then with 1961 Germany travel or service-station material, then with broader vintage automobile, fuel pump, and public telephone themes.
