A Man Raking Grass Near a Farmhouse in a Rural Field — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1947, this vintage home movie captures a rural Illinois landscape viewed through a window frame. The footage shows a vast, dry grassy field under an overcast sky, with a distant farmhouse and utility poles visible. A man in a dark sweater and cap appears, working in the field, possibly raking or inspecting the tall grass. The film exhibits classic Super 8 characteristics: grainy texture, light scratches, and a muted color palette, evoking a nostalgic, documentary-style glimpse of mid-century American countryside life.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1940s rural Illinois home-movie footage for documentary or educational edits needing a brief agricultural field view with a working adult figure.
Period detail: The scene may show mid-century rural work clothing, simple utility poles, open fields, and distant farm buildings consistent with the supplied 1947 Illinois metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The camera observes from behind a window or door frame as an adult man moves through tall grass, giving the clip an unstaged home-movie view of outdoor labor.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include window framing, dry tall grass, a flat rural horizon, utility poles, distant buildings, overcast sky, and a man bending or working in the field.
Film character: The 8mm image has soft focus, muted color, visible grain, surface scratches, and slight exposure variation that support its physical home-movie character.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a rural establishing insert, a quiet transition, or a memory beat for mid-century farm and countryside sequences.
Historical context: The footage offers a small visual record of everyday rural landscape and manual field work without enough detail to identify the farm, person, or exact activity.
Research note: A person is visible but not identifiable in detail; rights review should still consider likeness, location/property context, and copyright separately.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1947 Illinois rural field 8mm footage, 1940s farm home movie, man working in tall grass, and countryside seen through a window.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then other 1947 Illinois rural scenes, then broader 1940s farm work or Midwestern countryside material.
