A Young Girl Throwing a Penny in the Trevi Fountain for... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures the iconic Trevi Fountain in Vatican City. The footage shows detailed views of the fountain's Baroque architecture, including its grand columns and sculpted figures. A young girl in a light-colored top and headscarf appears in the final frame, raising her arm to toss a coin into the water—a traditional gesture for good luck. The film exhibits classic Super 8 characteristics: soft focus, purple color cast, and visible grain. This authentic slice of mid-century travel nostalgia offers rich archival footage for documentaries, editorial content, and historical storytelling.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s 8mm travel footage useful for documentary or educational sequences needing a visitor-shot view of the Trevi Fountain and coin-toss custom.
Period detail: The clip may show early-1960s tourist filming, with modest travel clothing, a headscarf, and handheld framing of a monumental Baroque fountain.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the tourist perspective: quick handheld views of fountain sculpture followed by a young visitor making a coin toss.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include stone columns, sculpted figures, fountain water, carved rockwork, a pool edge, and a girl in a light top and headscarf.
Film character: The 8mm scan has soft focus, visible grain, slight gate marks, uneven exposure, and a purple-blue color cast typical of aged home-movie film.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a travel-memory insert, European landmark cutaway, or brief transition into a mid-century tourism or wishes-for-luck sequence.
Historical context: The footage documents a visitor's encounter with a famous fountain and the coin-toss gesture without proving organized tourism or a specific public event.
Research note: People and a visible face require likeness review, while the landmark and sculptures may also need location or artwork rights assessment depending on use.
Research search match: Likely matches searches for 1960s 8mm Trevi Fountain footage, vintage Italy travel home movie, coin toss fountain, and mid-century tourist landmark film.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1962 Italy or Rome fountain footage, then broader European travel and good-luck ritual scenes.
