Men with Elephant on Beach — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1946, this vintage home movie captures a man in a cap and dark jacket riding an elephant on a beach in India. Two other men stand beside the animal, one wearing a scarf and hat, as the sea stretches behind them under a pale sky. The footage shows slight camera movement and the characteristic grain and color fade of mid-century amateur film, offering a nostalgic glimpse of a unique moment from the post-war era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s India editorial projects needing brief home-movie footage of men posing with an elephant by the sea.
Period detail: The clothing, faded 8mm color, and beachside elephant scene may show a mid-1940s tourist or local encounter in India.
Home-movie behavior: The clip preserves informal posing and movement as the rider shifts on the elephant while nearby men face the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include an elephant, three men, a seated rider, caps and scarf, dark jackets, open water, pale sky, and handheld framing.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, color fade, and slight handheld drift give the footage a recognizable amateur 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a short insert, travel-memory beat, animal encounter cutaway, or transition within a 1940s India sequence.
Historical context: The footage shows people interacting with an elephant in a coastal setting, but it does not identify the exact beach, participants, or occasion.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so copyright status, source permission, and possible likeness considerations should be reviewed separately.
Research search match: Likely matches searches for 1940s India 8mm home movie, men on elephant by sea, vintage elephant ride footage, and colonial-era travel film.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other India 1946 footage, then broader 1940s travel, beach, animal, or home-movie sequences.
