Aden Harbor Title Card — Clip Details

A close-up of a vintage 8mm film title card from Aden, Yemen, dated 1946. The white card features bold blue lettering that reads 'ADEN HARBOR' with smaller text below indicating it's from a survey by the Royal Indian Marine in 1936 with additions to 1938. The Royal Indian Marine emblem is visible at the top. The footage shows slight film grain and natural wear, characteristic of archival home movie footage from the mid-20th century. This clip captures a moment of historical documentation, ideal for documentaries, editorial content, or nostalgic projects about British colonial history in the Gulf of Aden.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for archive requests needing a 1940s home-movie title insert related to Aden Harbor, maritime geography, or colonial-era travel documentation.
Period detail: The card appears to show a printed harbor chart title with Royal Indian Marine wording, a crest at top, and references to a survey and later additions.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the filmed title card itself, suggesting a home-movie maker documenting or organizing travel footage rather than staging a scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a white title card, large blue ADEN HARBOR lettering, smaller survey text, a crest-like emblem, film gate edges, and dust marks.
Film character: The 8mm scan has soft focus, visible grain, flicker, dark frame borders, and small scratches that preserve the physical-film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as an establishing insert, chapter title, transition, or research cue before Aden harbor or maritime footage.
Historical context: The visible wording places the subject in a maritime mapping context connected to Aden, while the filmed card reflects mid-century amateur documentation practices.
Research note: No people are visible, but the crest and printed chart text should be reviewed for copyright, source identification, and institutional mark considerations.
Research search match: Matches searches for 8mm Aden Harbor title card, 1940s Yemen home movie title, Royal Indian Marine chart card, and colonial-era maritime footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then Aden or Yemen material from the same year, then broader harbor, shipping, or colonial travel footage.
