Elephants Cooling Off In Water With Visitors In Classic Cars — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1971, this vintage home movie captures a herd of elephants cooling off in a shallow water enclosure at Yellowstone Wyoming. Visitors in classic 1970s cars observe from a grassy area beyond the water, with tall pine trees lining the background. The footage shows the elephants interacting in the water, some standing while others lie partially submerged, offering a nostalgic glimpse of a zoo or wildlife park experience from the era. The image has the characteristic grain and color saturation of Super 8 film, with a dark frame border suggesting it was filmed through a window or from a vehicle.

What appears in frame: Visible elements include elephants in shallow water, a pond edge, pine trees, grass, parked classic cars, and dark vertical window or film-frame borders.
Film character: The 8mm footage shows soft focus, visible grain, muted color, handheld framing, and dark frame edges that add physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief insert, period wildlife cutaway, travel-memory beat, or transition into 1970s family tourism material.
Historical context: The footage reflects a public viewing setup where visitors observe elephants from cars or a nearby grassy area, without identifiable people in frame.
Research note: No people, logos, or brands are identifiable in these frames, but copyright, animal-location context, and property or site permissions still require review.
