New York City-1956: Two Men Playing Catch On A Gravel Driveway In Autumn

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for 1950s archival requests needing brief home-movie footage of adult recreation, informal outdoor play, or mid-century leisure in a New York City residential setting.

Period detail

The clothing, gravel drive, wooded surroundings, picket fence, and small garden arbor may show mid-1950s residential life as captured in amateur 8mm color film.

Home-movie behavior

Two adult men casually play catch for the camera, giving the clip an unstaged family-film view of everyday recreation rather than organized sport.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include two men, a small ball, gravel driveway, autumn trees, a white fence, a garden arbor, distant houses, and strong midday shadows.

Film character

The footage has 8mm home-movie texture with soft focus, visible grain, slight color shift, uneven exposure, and the contact-sheet framing of a short handheld moment.

Edit role

An editor could use it as a short insert, memory beat, transition, or cutaway for 1950s leisure, family life, seasonal neighborhood activity, or informal recreation.

Historical context

The scene suggests ordinary adult leisure in a residential outdoor space, with autumn foliage and casual dress supporting a domestic mid-century atmosphere.

Research note

Two adult faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed; no logos or music are apparent, and copyright, likeness, and property permissions should be assessed separately.
