McLaughlin Family Lodge Retro Motel — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1976, this vintage home movie captures the McLaughlin Family Lodge in Fort Wayne, Indiana. A classic brown station wagon is parked in front of the retro motel, its sign clearly visible above the entrance. A woman in a black top and white shorts stands near the doorway, framed by the building's brick facade and flower boxes. The footage, with its characteristic film grain and warm color palette, evokes a nostalgic 1970s Americana atmosphere, perfect for documentaries, editorial content, or nostalgic storytelling.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for requests needing 1970s Indiana roadside lodging, motel exteriors, family travel, or Americana insert footage for documentary and editorial edits.
Period detail: Visible era clues include the brown station wagon, striped parking lines, low motel facade, flower boxes, and the McLaughlin Family Lodge sign, consistent with the 1976 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The camera observes a traveler-like exterior moment from across the parking area as a woman stands near the motel entrance without staged action.
What appears in frame: The frames show the motel sign, shingled roof, brick and painted facade, parked station wagon, doorway, flower boxes, parking spaces, and a woman near the entrance.
Film character: The 8mm scan has visible grain, warm color, slight softness, gate edges, and contact-sheet framing that preserve the home-movie texture of the original film.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, travel transition, roadside lodging cutaway, or memory beat in a 1970s family-trip sequence.
Historical context: The clip records an everyday motel frontage and parking-lot view, offering visual context for car-based domestic travel and small roadside lodging in the 1970s.
Research note: Human likeness and the named motel sign should be reviewed separately from copyright status, with attention to editorial use, brand identification, and location claims.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1976 Fort Wayne motel exterior, 8mm home movie station wagon, McLaughlin Family Lodge sign, and 1970s roadside lodging footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with nearby shots from the same reel, then other 1976 Fort Wayne material, then broader 1970s motel, road trip, and station wagon footage.
