Large Graduation Class Wearing Robes On Field — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1964, this vintage home movie captures a large graduation class lined up on a grassy field in Williamsburg, Virginia. Students in white and black academic robes stand in a long row under a pale purple sky, suggesting early morning or late evening light. The footage, viewed through a dark frame, shows natural film grain and slight color fading typical of Super 8 footage from the era. A few small debris particles float across the lens, adding to the authentic, nostalgic quality of this archival moment.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s 8mm home-movie footage for productions needing a wide graduation class scene on an open field in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Period detail: Academic robes and caps on a grassy field may show mid-1960s commencement dress and ceremony staging, supported by the 1964 metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The distant, static home-movie viewpoint records the class as a group rather than individual portraits, giving the scene an unstaged family-film perspective.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a long line of graduates, black and white robes, mortarboard caps, open grass, a pale sky, distant trees, utility poles, and film gate edges.
Film character: The clip has visible 8mm grain, cool faded color, soft focus, slight exposure variation, dust marks, and dark frame borders from the physical film scan.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a brief insert, educational-history cutaway, ceremony transition, or memory beat for graduation and campus-life sequences.
Historical context: The footage documents a large formal school or college ceremony from a distance, but the frames do not identify the institution or individual participants.
Research note: People are visible but distant; copyright, likeness, and any venue or institutional permissions should be reviewed separately before publication.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1964 Williamsburg graduation, 1960s commencement field, 8mm graduation robes, and vintage home movie academic ceremony.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent reel material, then other Williamsburg 1964 footage, then broader 1960s education, commencement, campus, or family ceremony scenes.
