A Small Plane Taking Off From A Dirt Runway — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1964, this vintage home movie captures a small white propeller plane taking off from a dirt runway under a clear blue sky. The aircraft, a classic light aircraft, accelerates along the unpaved surface before lifting into the air. The footage exhibits the characteristic grain, color shift, and slight motion blur of Super 8 film, with a purple tint in the sky and a dark frame border. Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s 8mm home-movie aviation footage for documentary inserts about small aircraft, rural airstrips, personal flying, or mid-century transportation.
Period detail: The small propeller aircraft, unpaved runway, open horizon, and 8mm color stock may show a modest 1960s light-aviation setting in the Washington, DC area.
Home-movie behavior: The camera observes from a distance as the plane taxis, lifts off, and recedes, giving the clip the informal timing of a visitor or family home movie.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a white propeller plane, dirt runway, low scrubland, blue-purple sky, distant horizon, traffic cone, and dark 8mm frame borders.
Film character: The clip has visible film grain, soft focus, purple-blue color shift, slight motion blur, and gate borders that mark it as scanned physical home-movie film.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a short aviation cutaway, period travel insert, takeoff transition, or memory beat within a 1960s home-movie sequence.
Historical context: The footage documents everyday light-aircraft activity on an open unpaved strip, useful as visual context for recreational or local aviation without implying a specific event.
Research note: People appear seated in the aircraft, so likeness review may be needed; no readable logos or private property are visible, and copyright clearance remains separate.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1964 8mm small plane takeoff, Washington DC home movie aviation, dirt runway propeller aircraft, and 1960s light aircraft footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1964 Washington DC material, then broader 1960s small-aircraft or runway footage.
