Washington DC-1964: Classic Racing Glider Sweeps Across The Cloudy Sky Above The

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for 1960s aviation, recreation, or air-show productions needing a brief 8mm home-movie view of a glider crossing open sky.

Period detail

The white racing-style glider and 8mm color stock support the 1964 metadata, though no landmark or dated signage is visible in the frames.

Home-movie behavior

The clip has the value of a spectator-shot aviation moment, with the camera following the aircraft rather than presenting a staged or professional setup.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include a white glider, long narrow wings, red nose, tail number 17, blue-purple cloudy sky, film borders, grain, and light scratches.

Film character

The footage shows 8mm color texture with soft focus, purple sky cast, visible grain, light dust, and slight exposure variation across the contact frames.

Edit role

An editor could use it as a short aviation insert, transition, memory beat, or cutaway for mid-century flight and recreational sport sequences.

Historical context

The view suggests mid-century recreational aviation or glider demonstration culture, but the frames do not identify a specific airfield, event, or crowd.

Research note

No people, logos, or private property are visible, but copyright status and any aircraft identification questions should be reviewed separately.
