Washington DC-1964: Glider Soaring In Pale Blue Sky

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Useful for requests needing 1960s recreational aviation or soaring footage as documentary insert material from a home-movie source.

Period detail

The long-wing glider, wing number 45, red accents, and faded 8mm color may show mid-1960s civilian soaring culture without identifying a specific airfield.

Home-movie behavior

The camera tracks the aircraft from below with the observational feel of a spectator following an unstaged flight overhead.

What appears in frame

Visible elements include a white glider, red wing tips, the number 45, pale blue sky, soft haze, film gate borders, and contact-sheet frame divisions.

Film character

The clip has 8mm grain, mild color fading, small scratches, and slight handheld tracking that give the sky and aircraft a physical home-movie texture.

Edit role

An editor could use this as a cutaway, transition, or reflective memory beat for recreation, flight, summer leisure, or mid-century aviation sequences.

Historical context

The footage places a small sailplane against open sky, suggesting civilian recreational flight rather than commercial transport or military activity.

Research note

No people or private property are visible, but the aircraft number and any underlying copyright or aviation-identification questions should be reviewed cautiously.
