Two Boats Close Together at Harbor During Sunset — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a quiet moment at a San Diego harbor. Silhouetted figures stand on a dock as two boats, including one labeled 'TOMMY', are positioned closely on the water. The warm glow of a setting sun illuminates the scene, casting long shadows and highlighting the grainy texture of the Super 8 footage. A distant lighthouse or buoy glows on the horizon, adding to the nostalgic maritime atmosphere. The clip offers authentic archival footage of mid-century boating life, perfect for documentaries, historical projects, or nostalgic content.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports requests for early 1960s San Diego harbor home-movie footage for documentary, museum, educational, or editorial use involving small boats and waterfront life.
Period detail: The 8mm home-movie look, boat styling, dockside silhouettes, and 1962 metadata place the scene in a mid-century harbor setting.
Home-movie behavior: The camera observes from close quarters as people stand or move between boats, preserving an unstaged waterfront moment rather than a posed scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two close boats, a dock or gangway, silhouetted people, cabin windows, rigging, sunset water, and the name TOMMY on one hull.
Film character: Dense shadows, warm sunset glare, visible grain, soft focus, and slight handheld framing give the clip a physical 8mm archive texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a harbor insert, maritime transition, boat cutaway, or quiet memory beat within a broader coastal sequence.
Historical context: The footage shows everyday recreational or working waterfront activity in San Diego without confirming the identities of the people or boats.
Research note: People and a visible boat name require likeness and trademark or vessel-identification review separate from any copyright assessment.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1962 San Diego harbor 8mm, vintage boats at sunset, home movie dock scene, and mid-century California waterfront footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with neighboring shots from the same reel, then other 1962 San Diego harbor material, then broader vintage boating or waterfront scenes.
