Colorful Sunset With Silhouetted Antenna — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a stunning sunset over an unknown location in San Diego, California. The sun glows intensely at the horizon, casting vibrant orange and yellow light across the sky, which transitions into deep blue above. Wispy clouds streak across the frame, illuminated by the fading daylight. A tall antenna or tower stands in silhouette against the colorful backdrop, while dark silhouettes of foliage frame the right side of the image. The footage exhibits classic Super 8 grain and warm color tones, evoking a nostalgic, timeless atmosphere perfect for documentaries, editorial content, or historical storytelling.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s San Diego home-movie footage for requests needing a brief color sunset insert, atmospheric transition, or archival establishing beat without visible people.
Period detail: The frame may show a 1962 suburban or coastal-area view with a silhouetted antenna or tower, dark foliage, and no identifiable landmark visible.
Home-movie behavior: The clip reflects an unstaged home-movie habit of pausing on changing evening light and recording a striking sky from a fixed personal vantage point.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include the low sun, orange horizon glow, blue upper sky, layered clouds, a silhouetted antenna or tower, dark foliage, and heavy shadowed foreground.
Film character: The 8mm film has pronounced grain, warm color response, high sunset contrast, slight softness, and exposure that lets silhouettes fall into dense shadow.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short sunset cutaway, end-of-day transition, memory beat, or visual pause between San Diego or 1960s home-movie scenes.
Historical context: The footage offers everyday visual context for amateur color filming in the early 1960s, focused on weather, light, and local surroundings rather than events.
Research note: No people, logos, or readable property identifiers are visible, but copyright, location verification, and any property context should still be reviewed.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1962 San Diego 8mm sunset, vintage California home movie sky, silhouetted antenna at dusk, and 1960s color film clouds.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then other San Diego 1962 material, then broader 1960s California sunsets or home-movie sky cutaways.
