Family Of Elephants Enjoying The Shade And Cool — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962 at Disneyland California, this vintage home movie captures a family of elephants in a lush, tropical-themed enclosure. The elephants, including a large adult and a smaller calf, wade through a calm lake surrounded by rock formations and dense greenery. The water reflects the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees, creating a serene, shaded environment. The footage shows the animals moving slowly and calmly, enjoying the cool water and naturalistic habitat. The grainy texture and color palette of the Super 8 film add to the nostalgic, archival quality of this classic Disney park moment.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s 8mm Disneyland animal-enclosure footage for documentary cutaways, zoo or theme-park history, and family travel memory sequences.
Period detail: The frame shows visitor-shot 8mm footage of a landscaped elephant habitat with artificial rockwork, pond water, tropical planting, and a waterfall-like feature.
Home-movie behavior: The clip carries a visitor's observational perspective, lingering on elephants in water from behind dark foreground framing.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include elephants, pond water, rock formations, dense planting, shaded banks, a waterfall feature, and dark film-frame borders.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, color shift, and slight handheld framing give the scanned 8mm footage a distinct home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, animal cutaway, location transition, or quiet memory beat within a 1960s travel sequence.
Historical context: The footage reflects midcentury leisure filming of animal displays within a landscaped theme-park setting, without visible visitors in these frames.
Research note: No people or logos are visible, but location, animal-display context, copyright, and property-related permissions should be reviewed separately.
Research search match: Useful searches include 1962 Disneyland elephant enclosure 8mm, vintage theme park animals, home movie elephants in water, and 1960s California travel footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent same-reel Disneyland shots, then other 1962 Disneyland California footage, then broader 1960s animal or theme-park home movies.
