Los Angeles California USA-1962: Bullfighting Event With Matador And Charging Bull

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

A 1960s bullfighting event on 8mm serves documentary and editorial projects exploring mid-century US spectator culture or Latin cultural crossover programming.

Period detail

The spectator's woven straw hat with pink band and the arena's painted red barrera walls are consistent with 1960s public event venues; 8mm color palette and grain match period consumer film stock.

Home-movie behavior

The camera is positioned behind a seated spectator, giving an authentic over-the-shoulder civilian vantage rather than a staged or press-assigned angle.

What appears in frame

Frames show a straw-hatted spectator's back, white shirt, sandy arena floor, dark bull, matador with pink cape, red barrera barrier walls, and a final purple floral close-up.

Film character

Warm 8mm color saturation, visible grain, slight handheld shake, and soft focal plane give the arena action an intimate documentary texture typical of early-1960s consumer-gauge film.

Edit role

Functions as an over-the-shoulder audience POV insert or brief action cutaway in sequences covering mid-century public spectacles or US–Latin cultural crossover events.

Historical context

Bullfighting exhibitions were periodically staged in Southern California during this era; the specific venue is not identifiable from the footage alone.

Research note

Matador and arena figures are distant with faces not clearly distinguishable; rights research for identifiable performers is still advisable, and copyright rests with the film maker or estate.
