Bullring Built in 116 Days with Spectators Watching — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage footage captures a bullfighting event in Los Angeles, California. The clip focuses on a large white banner above the stands, which reads 'THIS BULLRING WAS BUILT IN 116 DAYS' and credits contractor Raymundo Muzquiz and technical director Jaime A. Sandoval. Spectators in period attire watch from the bleachers, while others sit below the banner, likely officials or staff. The scene is a candid moment of a temporary arena, showcasing mid-century American entertainment and the construction of a unique venue. The film exhibits natural grain and color fading typical of Super 8 home movies from the era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Suits documentary or editorial productions researching mid-century bullfighting in the US, Mexican cultural influence in Los Angeles, or 1960s spectator sports event coverage.
Period detail: Spectators in early-1960s attire, women in headscarves and print dresses and men in sport coats, along with a banner crediting Mexican construction firms, place this in the early 1960s.
Home-movie behavior: Rather than the arena action, the filmmaker frames the sponsor banner above the stands, recording the event's construction boast as a personal keepsake.
What appears in frame: Large white construction-credit banner, legible text naming Constructora Muzquiz S.A. and Grava-Mex S.A., MUSA circular logo badge, blue painted metal stadium railings, tiered bleacher seating, spectators in 1960s casual and formal attire.
Film character: Warm color shift and visible grain typical of early-1960s 8mm color reversal stock, with slight tonal compression that adds period texture while keeping the banner text legible.
Edit role: Works as a detail insert or cutaway within a sports-event or cultural-history sequence, highlighting the cross-border construction enterprise behind this Los Angeles bullfighting event.
Historical context: The credits naming Constructora Muzquiz S.A. and Grava-Mex S.A. suggest Mexican contractors built this temporary Los Angeles venue, reflecting mid-century cross-border cultural events popular in Southern California.
Research note: Company names and personal names (Raymundo Muzquiz, Jaime A. Sandoval) are legible on the banner; multiple faces are visible in the crowd; editorial use should assess name and likeness considerations independently.
Research search match: Researchers may search for 1960s bullfighting United States, Los Angeles Mexican cultural event 1962, temporary sports arena construction, or 8mm spectator crowd footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other footage from the same reel or event; then with 1960s Los Angeles crowd or stadium clips; then with footage documenting Mexican cultural events or bullfighting in America.
