Los Angeles California USA-1962: Matador Performs With Bull In Sand Arena

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1960s documentary productions seeking verité bullfight footage; useful as a period action insert for films about postwar tourism or mid-century Latin cultural traditions.

Period detail

8mm color stock dated to 1962; matador wears a pink-and-white traje de luces typical of mid-century corrida; red barrera barrier and sandy arena floor are visible throughout.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a fixed spectator position in the arena stands, this clip reads as personal tourism documentation rather than professional event coverage.

What appears in frame

Sandy arena floor, grey-white horned bull, matador in pink-and-white suit of lights, large red muleta cape, red barrera barrier wall, elevated spectator viewpoint, 8mm color grain.

Film character

Warm 8mm color stock shows characteristic grain and saturated reds on the cape and barrier; fixed-position framing from the stands gives the footage an authentic amateur-tourist quality.

Edit role

Functions as a short action cutaway in bullfighting or postwar-tourism sequences; shifting positions across the four frames offer limited but usable cut points.

Historical context

Mid-century corrida was practiced across Latin America and Spain; the metadata attributes this to Los Angeles in 1962, though venue identity should be independently verified before production use.

Research note

The matador's face is visible in multiple frames and may require likeness review in some jurisdictions; the stated Los Angeles location is unusual for bullfighting and warrants independent verification.

Research search match

Researchers may search for '1960s bullfight home movie,' 'vintage matador 8mm film,' 'mid-century corrida footage,' or 'postwar bullfighting tourist film.'

Archive pairing path

Pair first with other clips from the same reel or tourist trip; then with 1960s Latin American arena footage; then with mid-century bullfighting or Spanish-tradition documentary material.
