Los Angeles California USA-1962: Matador Taunting Charging Bull With Red Cape

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1960s mid-century spectator sport or public entertainment requests, particularly for documentary or editorial productions covering corrida culture in the American Southwest or Mexican border region.

Period detail

Sandy bullfighting arena, red wooden barrera, and banderillas planted in the bull are consistent with early 1960s corrida practice; a 'Cuervo' brand advertisement is visible on the barrier wall in later frames.

Home-movie behavior

Filmed from the spectator stands by an amateur, this footage delivers an authentic audience-level vantage on the arena action rather than a staged broadcast or professional camera perspective.

What appears in frame

Matador in white-and-pink traje de luces, charging bull with banderillas in its back, red cape (muleta), sandy arena floor, red wooden barrera, crowd in stands, dark 8mm film border edges, and a 'Cuervo' brand sign on the barrier.

Film character

8mm color film shows pronounced grain, a pink-blue color shift from age-related dye fade, and characteristic dark sprocket-border shadows that frame each image with visible film-stock texture.

Edit role

Works as an action cutaway or period-spectacle insert in documentary sequences covering mid-century public entertainment, animal-sport history, or border-region cultural practices.

Historical context

Bullfighting was practiced in the Los Angeles area and at nearby Mexican border venues in the early 1960s; the arena's commercial signage and ring layout suggest a professional venue, but the specific location warrants independent researcher verification.

Research note

The matador and identifiable spectators are visible on screen; the 'Cuervo' trademark on the arena barrier requires trademark clearance assessment for commercial use, and matador likeness rights should be evaluated before licensing.

Research search match

Likely matched by researcher queries such as 1960s bullfighting footage, vintage corrida home movie, mid-century arena spectator sport, or 8mm bullfight film.

Archive pairing path

Pair first with other clips from the same home-movie reel or event; then with 1960s Los Angeles or Tijuana public spectacle footage; then with mid-century crowd or arena sequences sharing similar film stock and color profile.
