Los Angeles California USA-1962: Matador Fearlessly Handling Charging Bull

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary and educational productions researching 1960s corrida tradition, mid-century spectator leisure, or amateur color 8mm filming of public arena events in the American Southwest.

Period detail

Matador's traditional traje de luces with pink capote, curved red barrera, and sandy arena floor are consistent with early-1960s corrida practice; clip metadata dates this to 1962.

Home-movie behavior

A private spectator filmed from the stands, giving an unmediated handheld view of the action rather than the edited perspective of a professional broadcast crew.

What appears in frame

Sandy arena floor, curved red barrera wall, matador in white and pink traje de luces, magenta capote, grey bull, distant spectators in tiered seating, bright natural daylight, 8mm film edge visible.

Film character

Pronounced 8mm grain, a cool blue-grey color cast across the bull's coat, mild exposure drift between frames, and motion blur in the close-action sequence convey authentic amateur color film of the early 1960s.

Edit role

Functions as an insert cut showing live arena action, or as a cutaway within documentary segments on mid-century spectator sport, cross-border leisure culture, or animal-use cultural history.

Historical context

Bullfighting was not legally practiced in California; the Los Angeles title attribution may indicate the filmmaker's origin rather than the event's location, warranting editorial geographic verification.

Research note

Matador's face is partially visible across frames; likeness review recommended; venue advertising boards are flagged as potentially branded; event is public but no clearance of any kind can be guaranteed.
