Los Angeles California USA-1962: Bullfighting Event With Matador And Charging Bull

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary or cultural-history productions exploring mid-century spectator sports, Latin American arena traditions in the American Southwest, or 1960s crowd entertainment.

Period detail

Arena boards visible across frames show 'Waterfall & Frazier Straight Bourbon Whiskey,' 'Jai Alai,' 'Toriles,' and 'Caliente,' consistent with early 1960s Southern California or Baja border-region commercial signage.

Home-movie behavior

Filmed handheld from the spectator stands, the shooter tracks both wide arena action and a close bull charge, delivering an amateur audience-eye view that staged production footage rarely replicates.

What appears in frame

Sandy bullring, red wooden barrera fence, matador in suit of lights with red cape, charging bull, white horse in the ring, packed grandstands, and multiple period advertising banners including Waterfall & Frazier and Caliente.

Film character

8mm color stock shows warm saturation with visible grain, heavy motion blur on the fast-moving bull in frame 1, and exposure variation consistent with handheld amateur filming at a bright outdoor event.

Edit role

Works as a cultural-event insert, crowd reaction cutaway, or transition beat in documentaries on 1960s spectator culture, Latin American arena traditions, or US–Mexico border entertainment history.

Historical context

Bullfighting with bloodshed was prohibited in California in this era; the visible 'Caliente' arena banner is strongly associated with Tijuana venues, suggesting the location metadata may warrant independent verification.

Research note

Multiple spectator and performer faces are visible throughout; commercial brand banners (Waterfall & Frazier, Caliente) appear prominently and may require editorial-use review; location attribution is unverified.

Research search match

Researchers may seek this as '1960s bullfighting footage,' 'mid-century Baja California arena event,' 'amateur 8mm bullfight crowd,' or 'vintage spectator sport home movie.'

Pair first with other clips from the same submission reel; then with 1960s US Southwest or Baja California cultural footage; then with mid-century stadium crowd or arena event clips.
