Bullfighter Wins Against Bull Cheered At — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage footage captures a bullfighting event at a packed stadium in Los Angeles, California. Workers in white pants and colored shirts sweep the dirt arena while horses stand near the entrance marked 'ARRASTRE'. A bull lies on the ground as matadors in traditional costumes walk across the ring. The crowd fills the stands under bright daylight, with advertisements for 'Tequila Cuervo' visible on the red barriers. The film shows natural grain and color fading typical of Super 8 home movies from the era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Serves 1960s Latin-culture and bullfighting documentary requests; suitable as editorial footage illustrating mid-century corrida spectacle staged in the American Southwest.
Period detail: Tequila Cuervo advertising on the arena barriers and the ARRASTRE gate sign are consistent with 1960s corrida production details; 8mm color saturation and film grain support the stated 1962 date.
Home-movie behavior: Shot from a spectator's vantage, the camera tracks from post-fight arena cleanup to close-range matadors acknowledging the crowd, capturing the full ceremony as an amateur fan would.
What appears in frame: Packed stadium stands, red arena barriers, ARRASTRE gate signage, Tequila Cuervo advertisement board, workers in white uniforms, horses near the arena entrance, matadors in embroidered traje de luces, sandy bullring floor.
Film character: Warm color shifts and visible 8mm grain give the image a period texture; bright daylight exposure is well-held in the arena but slightly bleached in the packed stands.
Edit role: Wide arena shots serve as establishing inserts for a corrida sequence; the closer matador frames suit a cutaway or character-reveal beat within a bullfighting narrative.
Historical context: Bullfighting events were staged periodically in Los Angeles in the early 1960s for Mexican and Mexican-American audiences; the visible Tequila Cuervo sponsorship is a period-specific commercial detail.
Research note: Tequila Cuervo brand signage is visible throughout and requires editorial or rights clearance review; matador faces are partially visible in closer frames and may raise likeness considerations in some jurisdictions.
Research search match: 8mm 1960s bullfight stadium matador corrida vintage Los Angeles California archival home movie spectators.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other clips from the same reel or venue; then with 1960s Los Angeles Hispanic-culture footage; then with mid-century corrida or stadium crowd scenes.
