Homemade Robot Contemplates The Deep End Of The Pool — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a homemade robot figure standing beside a pool at what appears to be a backyard or small amusement setting. The robot, constructed from simple materials, stands near a large, castle-like structure with a slide, while a person in a white outfit moves nearby. The scene is bathed in the warm, slightly faded colors characteristic of 1960s Super 8 film, with visible grain and soft focus. The clip evokes a sense of playful nostalgia and mid-century DIY culture, offering authentic archival footage for documentaries, retro-themed projects, or historical content.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s Los Angeles home-movie footage for requests needing a playful homemade robot figure beside a pool or small amusement-style water setting.
Period detail: The scene may show mid-century leisure design through the pool, wood-toned fencing, simple slide, and handmade robot costume or prop.
Home-movie behavior: The value is in the informal visitor-shot view, with a person moving near the robot and pool rather than a staged studio presentation.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a homemade robot figure, swimming pool, rock-like slide structure, wood deck, fencing, water surface, and a person in white.
Film character: The 8mm image has soft focus, visible grain, saturated blue-green pool color, slight exposure variation, and contact-sheet framing from the scan.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief cutaway, oddball memory beat, transition into DIY play culture, or insert for retro poolside leisure.
Historical context: The clip visually connects domestic or small-venue recreation with handmade futuristic play, without confirming the setting beyond Los Angeles metadata.
Research note: People are visible at a distance, so likeness review may be needed; copyright, property, and release status should be checked separately.
Research search match: Useful search phrases include 1962 Los Angeles 8mm home movie robot by pool, homemade robot poolside footage, and vintage DIY robot home movie.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with neighboring shots from the same reel, then other 1962 Los Angeles pool scenes, then broader homemade robot or mid-century leisure footage.
