Three Trained Seals Doing Various Tricks During — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a lively sea lion show at Marineland of the Pacific in Los Angeles, California. A trainer in a white uniform directs three trained sea lions performing tricks on platforms beside a pool. The animals balance on their hind legs, raise their flippers, and interact with the handler under bright sunlight. The iconic Marineland logo is visible on a red backdrop, with potted plants and a flag adding to the mid-century amusement park atmosphere. The footage exhibits natural film grain and color fading typical of Super 8 home movies from the era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1960s Southern California amusement-park animal show footage for documentary, museum, or editorial sequences needing visitor-shot Marineland of the Pacific material.
Period detail: The Marineland of the Pacific backdrop, white trainer uniforms, simple show platforms, and faded 8mm color point to a mid-century aquarium performance setting.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot perspective from the audience side of the pool, valuing the casual framing and short glimpses of trainers and sea lions in performance.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include three sea lions, white-uniformed trainers, low platforms, a pool edge, a red Marineland backdrop, show props, potted plants, and a flag.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, visible grain, mild color fading, bright daylight exposure, and contact-sheet framing consistent with home-movie material.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief insert, nostalgic cutaway, or transition beat for stories about 1960s attractions, aquariums, animal shows, or family travel.
Historical context: The footage shows mid-century public entertainment centered on trained marine mammals, with audience-side home-movie framing rather than formal promotional coverage.
Research note: People and the Marineland name are visible, so copyright, logo, venue-history, and possible likeness considerations should be reviewed for the intended use.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1962 8mm Marineland of the Pacific sea lion show, Los Angeles aquarium home movie, and 1960s trained seal performance footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then with 1962 Los Angeles or Marineland material, then with other 1960s aquarium, amusement-park, or animal-show footage.
