Zebu Sacred Cattle of India Sign and Animal Behind Fence — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a white zebu cow behind a wire fence at what appears to be a Catskill animal sanctuary. The footage includes a clear view of a green sign identifying the animal as a 'ZEBU Sacred Cattle of India,' highlighting its cultural significance. The grainy, color-bleached quality of the Super 8 footage evokes a nostalgic, archival feel, with natural daylight and tree branches visible in the background. This authentic slice of mid-century Americana offers a rare glimpse into early animal conservation efforts.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1962 8mm animal-park footage for edits needing mid-century Catskill travel, zoo, livestock, or visitor-shot educational cutaways.
Period detail: The sign lettering, wire enclosure, faded color, and handheld 8mm framing may show a modest early-1960s animal exhibit setting.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has the observational feel of a visitor pausing between the animal and its identifying sign rather than staged coverage.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a white zebu, wire fencing, a green zebu sign, tree branches, enclosure ground, and dark contact-sheet borders.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, color fading, uneven exposure, and handheld framing give the footage a physical 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: Use as a short insert, identification cutaway, zoo visit transition, or memory beat in sequences about animals, travel, or family outings.
Historical context: The footage documents how an exotic cattle exhibit was presented to visitors in a Catskill-area setting, without proving the institution or program shown.
Research note: No people are visible, but the exhibit sign and animal identification should be reviewed for copyright, trademark, cultural context, and location-use concerns.
Research search match: Search matches include 1960s 8mm zebu cow footage, Catskill animal exhibit sign, sacred cattle of India home movie, and vintage zoo enclosure cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then other 1962 Catskill material, then vintage animal-park or livestock exhibit scenes.
