Livestock Grazing in Field and Beach — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1961, this vintage home movie captures two large animals grazing in a sun-dappled grassy field beneath leafy trees. The footage, likely from Hagerstown, Maryland, shows the animals moving slowly through the pasture, with a wire fence visible in the foreground. The final frame shifts to a beach scene, where a person in a purple swimsuit sits on a patterned blanket beside a handbag labeled 'THE BEACH - JULY 1961', suggesting a family vacation. The film exhibits classic Super 8 grain, color fading, and lens flare, evoking a nostalgic 1960s Americana memory.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1961 8mm home-movie footage for productions needing rural animal grazing cutaways and a brief family beach-memory insert.
Period detail: The beach bag text supports July 1961, while the pasture and swimsuit details may show mid-century American leisure and travel context.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged visitor or family-camera view, observing animals from behind a fence before cutting to a seated beachgoer on a blanket.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two grazing animals, leafy trees, grass, a wire fence, bright pasture light, a seated person, a patterned blanket, and a beach bag.
Film character: The scan shows soft 8mm grain, faded color, uneven exposure, gate edges, and handheld framing that preserve the physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: Editors could use it as a pastoral insert, a travel-memory transition, or a brief cutaway between family vacation scenes from the same reel.
Historical context: The footage suggests everyday 1960s leisure filming, moving between an animal enclosure or pasture view and a casual beach stop.
Research note: People and bag lettering are visible, so copyright, likeness, and any trademark or location-identification questions should be reviewed separately.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1961 8mm Maryland home movie, animals grazing in field, vintage beach blanket scene, and family vacation reel.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with nearby shots from the same reel, then other Hagerstown or 1961 material, then related rural animal and beach vacation footage.
