Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fits requests for mid-century American domestic life, rural backyard scenes, or early 1960s everyday-living footage for documentary or social history productions.

Period detail

The woman's mid-length blue dress and the small outbuilding with a reddish roof are consistent with early 1960s rural or small-town Illinois domestic settings.

Home-movie behavior

The camera casually observes the woman moving near the outhouse in an unstaged, candid recording style typical of amateur 8mm home movies of the period.

What appears in frame

Woman in blue dress, small outbuilding with reddish-brown roof, white-painted larger structure, mature tree trunks, green grass, dappled shade, blue sky through foliage, small white container on ground.

Film character

8mm color shows saturated blues and greens, visible grain in shadowed areas, mild exposure variation across frames, and natural vignetting at edges consistent with mid-century amateur film stock.

Edit role

Works as a cutaway or memory beat in documentaries on mid-century American domestic life, rural infrastructure, or social histories of household sanitation.

Historical context

Outhouses remained in use in parts of rural and small-town Illinois into the early 1960s, making this a candid record of transitional domestic infrastructure from that era.
