Mature Trees Are Green And Their Leaves And Needles Dance In — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a sun-dappled suburban yard in Illinois. Lush green deciduous trees and evergreens dominate the frame, their leaves and needles gently swaying in a breeze. A person in light-colored clothing walks through the background, partially obscured by foliage. The image shows classic Super 8 film grain, slight color fading, and natural light filtering through the canopy, evoking a nostalgic mid-century American backyard scene.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Serves 1960s American domestic and nature documentary requests; useful as quiet B-roll establishing a mid-century suburban residential setting.
Period detail: Horizontal clapboard or aluminum house siding and full-canopy mature trees suggest a postwar suburban residential setting consistent with the 1962 metadata date.
Home-movie behavior: A figure moving through the background while the camera holds on yard trees is characteristic of informal home-movie documentation of domestic surroundings.
What appears in frame: Mature deciduous trees with dense summer foliage, a tall narrow conifer, a residential house eave with horizontal siding, bright overcast sky through canopy gaps, and a partially obscured background figure.
Film character: Classic 8mm palette with slightly desaturated greens, blown-out sky highlights, and visible film grain typical of early-1960s consumer colour stocks.
Edit role: Serves as a nature cutaway or domestic establishing insert; gentle foliage movement also suits a memory-beat dissolve in a 1960s suburban sequence.
Historical context: The suburban yard with mature shade trees and modest residential siding reflects typical postwar American middle-class homeownership as suburbs expanded in the early 1960s.
Research note: A person is partially visible across frames; likeness identification is unlikely due to foliage obscurement, but editorial review is advised before publication.
Research search match: Likely matched by queries such as 'suburban backyard trees 1960s,' 'Illinois home movie nature,' or '8mm mid-century American yard vintage.'
Archive pairing path: Pair first with same Illinois 1962 reel footage for continuity, then with Midwest suburban yard clips, then with broader mid-century American domestic B-roll.
