Illinois USA-1962: Woman Sitting in Garden Smiling at Camera

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits editorial requests for early-1960s Midwestern domestic life, including family portrait, backyard leisure, and suburban American home footage.

Period detail

The patterned sleeveless sundress, red metal lawn chair, and modest frame house with what appears to be a screened-porch addition suggest early-to-mid 1960s American suburban domestic life.

Home-movie behavior

The woman holds eye contact with the camera throughout, indicating an intimate family shoot where subject and filmmaker know each other well.

What appears in frame

Woman in patterned sundress in red metal lawn chair; light-yellow frame house with gray-green roof and screened addition; bicycle on lawn; mature deciduous trees; green grass; lens-flare artifact in opening frame.

Film character

Warm, slightly saturated 8mm color with natural grain and a prominent lens-flare artifact early in the clip; shallow depth of field softens background architecture in a way characteristic of consumer small-format film stocks of the period.

Edit role

Works as a character-establishing shot or quiet memory beat in documentaries on postwar American domestic life, personal biography sequences, or period lifestyle montages.

Historical context

The casually parked bicycle, modest frame house, and backyard leisure setting reflect everyday middle-class domestic life in a Midwestern suburb during the early 1960s.

Research note

The woman's face is clearly identifiable across multiple frames; no likeness release is documented, so clearance should be confirmed before any commercial use.
