Illinois USA-1962: Wooden Framed Mosaic Artwork Depicting the Crucifixion of Jesus

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1960s American religious-culture documentary requests as a brief architectural-detail shot of interior devotional mosaic art at a mid-century US Christian institution.

Period detail

Cut-stone wall construction and gold-tessellated mosaic style are consistent with mid-20th-century American ecclesiastical architecture; aged 8mm color tones support the stated 1962 date.

Home-movie behavior

A visitor to a religious site filmed the mosaic as a personal record of the artwork, holding the camera on the panel to capture its craftsmanship rather than staging a scene.

What appears in frame

Gold tessellated mosaic panel, halo-bearing central figure draped in white, secondary figure in earth-tone clothing, diagonal cross element in lower field, dark marble border, cut-stone wall blocks, and 8mm corner vignetting.

Film character

Warm yellowish cast and visible fine grain typical of aged 8mm stock, with pronounced corner vignetting and gentle handheld drift giving the footage an intimate, time-worn documentary texture.

Edit role

Works as a brief insert or religious-art detail cutaway in a mid-century American cultural documentary, or as a contemplative memory beat in a personal essay film about faith.

Historical context

Mosaic devotional art was a prominent feature of mid-century American Catholic and mainline Protestant church interiors; this footage documents that aesthetic in situ as part of a personal visit.

Research note

Human figures visible are artistic depictions within the mosaic, not filmed individuals; artwork copyright depends on creator and creation date; consult legal counsel before broadcast use.
