Illinois USA-1962: Religious Mosaics Depicting the Pieta and Deposition

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary and museum productions seeking 1960s American church interior footage with period religious mosaic art as datable visual evidence.

Period detail

Stone-walled interior, dark-framed mosaic panels, and marble-effect pilasters suggest a mid-century ecclesiastical setting consistent with the 1962 date in the metadata.

Home-movie behavior

An amateur filmmaker methodically documented two distinct mosaic panels in sequence, panning across the church interior in what reads as a personal devotional record.

What appears in frame

Two framed religious mosaic panels, a Pietà with Virgin in blue robe, a Deposition with robed figures over a stone slab, gold tesserae backgrounds, dark panel borders, stone-block walls, and flanking pilasters.

Film character

Visible 8mm frame-edge grain, mild handheld drift, and slightly saturated color render the footage as an intimate period document with genuine archival texture.

Edit role

Functions as a held insert or cutaway within sequences on mid-century American Catholic architecture, devotional art, or Illinois church heritage.

Historical context

Mosaic installations of this style were common in American Catholic parishes during the postwar building boom of the 1950s–60s, often decorating sanctuary walls or stations programs.

Research note

The mosaic artworks may carry independent copyright; research the originating artist and institution before commercial use; depicted figures are artwork, not identifiable living persons.
