Man Climbing Utility Pole — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a man climbing a leafy green tree in a suburban Illinois yard. The footage shows him ascending a wooden utility pole near a modest house, with power lines stretching across the frame. The scene is bathed in natural daylight, with lush trees and a grassy lawn visible. The film exhibits classic Super 8 grain and color saturation, offering authentic archival footage of mid-century American life. The man, wearing casual clothing, appears to be trimming or cutting branches, a common yard maintenance task of the era. The shot is framed through a window or doorway, adding a personal, nostalgic perspective to this slice-of-life moment.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Fits archival requests for 1960s Midwestern suburban life, postwar neighborhood documentation, or yard-maintenance cutaways; useful in mid-century Americana documentaries and educational productions.
Period detail: A wooden utility pole, mature deciduous trees, and a modest ranch-style house visible in the final frame are consistent with early-1960s Midwestern suburban development; color saturation aligns with the stated 1962 date.
Home-movie behavior: An unscripted domestic vantage documents a routine yard task, capturing the informal, unhurried rhythm of mid-century homeownership from a family member's perspective.
What appears in frame: Tall wooden utility pole, dense leafy summer trees, partial house roofline, green lawn, ornamental shrubs, power lines, blue sky, and a small figure near the house in the final frame.
Film character: Warm 8mm color saturation, visible grain structure, and slight edge vignetting give the footage an intimate period texture consistent with amateur home-movie stock from the early 1960s.
Edit role: Functions as a neighborhood establishing shot or suburban cutaway in documentary sequences about mid-century American domestic life, postwar housing, or 1960s Midwest community.
Historical context: Wooden utility poles running through residential yards and modest ranch-style housing reflect the infrastructure and architectural character of postwar Midwestern suburban expansion in the early 1960s.
Research note: At least one person appears visible in the footage; likeness rights for identifiable individuals cannot be assumed and should be evaluated by a qualified rights professional before commercial use.
Research search match: Researchers may find this via queries such as '1960s suburban Illinois,' '8mm vintage yard footage,' 'mid-century American neighborhood,' or '1962 home movie outdoor Midwest.'
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other clips from the same reel or Illinois location, then with 1960s Midwest suburban neighborhood footage, then with postwar American domestic or yard-maintenance themes.
