Illinois USA-1962: Men Cutting Fallen Tree in Backyard

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits documentary or editorial productions covering mid-century American suburban life, routine home maintenance, or postwar neighborhood community in the 1960s.

Period detail

Men's clothing, including polo shirts, high-waisted trousers, and a white undershirt, is consistent with early 1960s American casual wear; 8mm film stock supports the stated dating.

Home-movie behavior

Relaxed bystander posture of the two watching men suggests an unscripted recording of a neighborhood yard event rather than a staged domestic scene.

What appears in frame

Large fallen tree trunk with exposed cut cross-sections, three adult men in casual dress, green lawn, dense evergreen hedges, bright summer daylight, and debris near the tree base.

Film character

Warm, slightly oversaturated 8mm color rendering with visible grain and soft edges gives the footage authentic mid-century home-movie texture throughout.

Edit role

Works as a period insert or cutaway in documentaries about postwar suburbia, mid-century domestic life, or informal neighborhood labor.

Historical context

Backyard tree removal coordinated among multiple men reflects informal neighborly mutual aid common in mid-century American suburban communities.
