Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: This clip suits documentary or educational productions needing candid footage of early-1960s American recreational boating and lakeside leisure.
Period detail: The mid-century runabout with wraparound windshield and outboard motor, men's clothing (plaid shirt, dark trousers), and 8mm color palette are consistent with early-1960s Midwest Americana.
Home-movie behavior: The stationary, unhurried camera captures an unscripted private moment of two men readying a boat — unstaged and candid throughout.
What appears in frame: Two adult men, small fiberglass runabout with wraparound windshield, outboard motor, wooden plank dock with pilings, calm lake or river, sandy bank, dense deciduous treeline, green grass foreground.
Film character: Warm, slightly saturated 8mm color with visible grain and soft film-base texture characteristic of early-1960s home-movie stock — intact and usable.
Edit role: Serves as a period-establishing insert or nostalgic cutaway in documentaries on Midwestern leisure culture, postwar American lifestyle, or summer recreation.
Historical context: Small motorboats became widely accessible to middle-class American families in the late 1950s–early 1960s, making this scene typical of postwar suburban leisure.
Research note: Two adult individuals are visible in all frames; likeness review required for commercial use — a Stockfilm license covers copyright but model releases are not available for archival home-movie footage.
Research search match: 1960s American lakeside boating, vintage motorboat home movie, Midwest summer recreation 8mm, early 1960s recreational boating footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other clips from the same Illinois 1962 reel; then 1960s Midwest lake or river footage; then postwar American family leisure or recreational boating clips.
